It kind of reminds me of the saying, “God must be a Carolina fan because he made the sky Carolina blue.” But I am afraid the colors of Clemson pre exist Lake Hartwell. Lake Hartwell is a man made lake formed by the construction of the Hartwell Dam off the Savannah River Basin. Construction on the Dam began in the 1950′s and threatened to flood several acres of the Clemson campus which included Death Valley. You can read more on that here:
